2018 Hyundai Sonata at Patrick Hyundai

The front-wheel drive 2018 Sonata gets rolling into 2018 with a surplus of style and a lot of prior success. It is a very popular 5 passenger vehicle so far in its run, and 2018 aims to continue that tradition. A "cascading grill", LED DRLs, a clear profile backed up by streamlined taillights on a completely new appearance from the back gets it into an intriguing and exciting territory. Headlights with dynamic bending light become an option, increasing driving safety. New wheel designs strongly complement the 4-door Sonata's rapturous new appearance on the outside, while on the inside, a three-spoke steering wheel mirrors the effect elegantly. The instrument panel and center console both reflect the general push of the exterior as well and do so with the driver's ease of use in mind. New safety technology is added, as is an 8-speed automatic transmission

Can you explain the different engines?

There are several engine options depending on model selection, such as the 1.6-L Inline 4-cylinder Twin-scroll Turbo on the ECO model with 178-hp and 195 lb.-ft. of torque, a 2.4-liter I-4 getting 185-hp and 178 lb.-ft. of torque, and then a 245 horsepower 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, which now has an 8-speed automatic transmission. Otherwise, models will have a 6-speed automatic transmission with SHIFTRONIC, while the ECO model naturally has a 7-speed EcoShift Dual Clutch Transmission (DCT) with SHIFTRONIC. That's a lot of choices, and depending on what you are looking for, the 2018 Sonata has you covered. On top of all this, a Drive Mode selector is incorporated, and steering wheel paddle shifters are also found on the dual Sport models as well as the Limited 2.0T. Both steering response and calibration have been enhanced, and, in addition to that, the rear suspension has been strengthened to withstand today's roads. This serves to both direct the powerful engines more directly and assists the driver in controlling the power more easily.

What features are known at this point?

The 2018 Sonata brings in a standard 7" color display touchscreen with both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, as well as standard steering-wheel-mounted audio, Bluetooth and cruise controls. There are a 2nd-row USB charge port and an optional Qi standard wireless charging pad up front which allows easy charging of smartphones. The purchasable navigation systems can come with a surrounding view function. The Navigation is robust even without a subscription and even will reveal traffic patterns or other similar data. Blue Link is onboard and immediately compatible with Amazon Echo, for those of us who like to start the car from inside the house on colder winter days! Not too far behind that in the convenience area, the Proximity Key entry with push-button start as well as a Hands-free smart trunk appears on models SEL and up, while automatic headlights, solar control glass, and a shark-fin antenna are standard on all models. On the Sport models and up, there is both a power tilt-and-slide sunroof plus a power auto-down/up passenger window (driver power window is standard across models). An Infinity AM/FM/SiriusXM/MP3 10-speaker audio system shows up as standard on certain models, with a subwoofer and a 400-watt external amplifier. On the SEL and up, a 4.2-inch color trip computer with custom settings displays info nicely. There is a host of other available items, such as heated seats, leather upholstery, an Integrated Memory System (IMS) for driver seat and side mirrors, and Rear side window sunshades, to name a few.

How about safety features in the 2018 Sonata?

There are seven standard airbags consisting of Advanced dual front airbags (SRS) with Occupant Classification System (OCS), then driver's knee, side, and curtain airbags. Standard as well across the model roster are Blind Spot Detection (BSD) with Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA), a rearview camera, an Energy-absorbing steering column, Electronic Stability Control, Anti-lock Braking System, Rear LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children), Front and rear crumple zones, and a Power window lock-out button! A new Lane Departure Warning system works with an augmented Lane Keep Assist function as optional. Safety is primary ongoing strength in the Hyundai Sonata!
